New Restaurant Five March Now Open
If you’re a regular reader of our blog, you’ll know that food is always a hot topic for us, so we were over the moon to see new-kid-on-the-block, Five March, open their doors to the public this month. Their food is great, and the location is spot-on too – right beneath our very own hotel. So next time you visit us, there’s no need to look any further than your own front door for a fantastic dining experience!
The atmosphere at Five March is decidedly no-fuss. They’ve directed all their efforts into delicious plates, leaving the décor and general demeanour of the place unpretentious and welcoming. They’ve created a venue where, by their own admission, they would like to spend time themselves. It’s a relaxed joint with no demand for customers to dress up and the focus is fully on the food.
Speaking of food, the menu is an eclectic mix of European and Scottish influences, with a few Middle-Eastern and Indian twists to boot. The place has a “nose-to-tail and root-to-leaf” policy, making sure that as much of each product is made use of as possible. Some might be a little unused to this kind of cooking, but we reckon it’s on the money for environmentally friendliness and reducing ecological impact – and that always gets a thumbs-up in our book! Dishes which have made our early favourites list include lamb shoulder with onion puree and anchovies, chili octopus with corn, radish, pink grapefruit and puffed rice, and, for the plant-lovers, roast cauliflower with pickled grapes, pomegranate, hazelnuts, dill and zumac. Well, our mouths are watering already! Desserts of lemon curd, chocolate parfait and cornflake panacotta await you too – if you can manage one after those sumptuous plates.
Not only do Five March impress with their culinary skill, their wine-list is an absolute delight too. With the pick of some of the best European wines available (and a surprise outsider from Lebanon), we particularly love that all choices are available as bottles and small and large glasses, meaning you don’t have to go all-out on budget or unit-allowance to enjoy the best flavours.
There’s so much to love about Five March that we could talk about it endlessly. We’re confident our guests are going to enjoy the place as much as we already do, so we’ve arranged a little sweetener to get the friendship going – a 10% discount available over on this month’s deal blog, be sure to check it out!
