The summer months are just around the corner and what better way to celebrate the changing seasons that to get your sport on at the European Championships? Broadcasting events to up to a billion people across the continent (yep, one billion – you heard us right. Scotland has truly earned its place on the sporting map!), the events will take place throughout the city and beyond.
If watching the world’s physical elite do their thing is right up your street, then we’ve got the perfect few days planned out for you. Kick things off with a night or two in the Acorn Hotel. Our three-star residence is perfectly placed in Glasgow’s West End, with transport links to all events on our doorstep. You’ll find knowledgeable staff on hand to help you plan your way around the Championships, and a hearty breakfast to set you up for the day – even better, our current deal means that if you book before the end of June, breakfast is on us!
One of the most colourful events on the calendar are the gymnastic Championships. Unbelievable strength and flexibility will be on show from 2nd to the 12th of August at the SSE Hydro which, believe it or not, happens to be just a ten-minute walk from the Acorn Hotel – perfect! If you’re more of an adrenaline junky, then head to the BMX finals over at Knightswood Park, which can be reached in 30 minutes via public transport. You’ll see death-defying tricks galore as daredevils take to two wheels (or less!) to impress the judges. Pass through the city centre on the way home and treat yourself to a good feed after a day of thrill-seeking – try The Dhabba for a North Indian feast and a cool glass of Cobra to round the day out.
One of Glasgow’s most impressive sporting venues is the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome set in the heart of the regenerated East End. Take a trip over on the train to be wowed by high-speed track cycling and make sure to grab lunch at the excellent eatery, Tibo, on Duke Street in between heats. You could even get some of your own fun on two-wheels by hiring a street-bicycle for the trip home. Prices start at just one pound and you can enjoy the scenic route back to our hotel while burning off lunch – bonus!
