As regular readers will know, we love to give you a rundown of the best way to spend the pennies you just saved and this month, we thought we’d take a look at some of the activities you can get involved in that are a little off the city’s well-beaten tourist track. Read on to find out more.
Soak up some history at Glasgow Women’s Library
Not as well known as it deserves to be, Glasgow Women’s Library houses a fantastic collection of works for, by and about the womenfolk of the world. Plus, there are guided heritage walks, creative writing and reading groups, and a whole calendar of special events to be discovered.
Hang loose at Aerial Edge
A leading light in Scotland’s circus-skills training community, you don’t have to have hopes of one day becoming a clown and running off to live the nomadic life to enjoy a taster of being in the ring. Circus fitness, acrobatics and aerial classes are all available as single sessions and are guaranteed to be the most fun you’ve had during exercise all year!
Watch weird cinema at Matchbox Cineclub
These guys know a cult movie when they see one. Their monthly screenings take in a hugely varied range of genres and you can never tell what they’ll be showing next, but you can be sure it won’t be playing at your local multiplex. The founders of the original Nicolas Cage celebration, Cage-a-rama, Matchbox Cineclub appeal to all those who like to do something a little different with their Thursday night.
Work up a sweat at Park Run
Started a fitness routine this year and don’t want to fall off the wagon whilst you holiday? Or just feel like meeting a few locals and stretching your legs? Park Run is the worldwide phenomenon that sees locals meeting up in their local green space for a timed 5k run. Don’t worry about performance though, all levels and abilities are welcome! Our recommendation is the Pollock Park run, as you’ll see the wonderful ex-stately home, Pollock House, and maybe even a Clydesdale horse or two!
